Over summer 2017 I worked mainly full time at a bar in Birmingham called ‘Dubella’, over my time at the bar the managers changed hands. This meant they were going through a rebrand. Rather than them looking elsewhere, I saw this as an opportunity to use my practice. I approached the new owners and explained that I would be happy to design the new branding and menus, to infit with a style of the establishment. They wanted to aim towards a younger market, that would be interested in bars that serve cocktails etc. The process itself allowed me to develop my professional practice in a freelancing capacity. It also allowed me to have my first experience of paid work and some of the issues that can arise with such. Overall it had taught me that I can bring my design practice into most things I do, as well as incorporate it into activities where I never thought it would be used. Over the year of level 5
I hope that I would be able to develop my freelancing skills and get a better understanding of the industry and how I should approach it. Although I would also like to use level 5 to work towards gaining some experience within a graphic design agency and understand the more corporate side of design within the industry.
