Creative report - Design Boards

Module Evaluation

Overall Evaluation:

Personally, ougd502 was one of the most beneficial of the modules undertook this year. Professionally its allowed me to develop the confidence to speak to professionals in the industry to get either experience or even question the way they work. This has then led me to actually get industry experience, which I feel has been successful from taking part in workshops and seminars as part of this module.
The module has also prompted me to rebrand my design practice and give myself a more clear and relevant brand identity for my design practice. Which has then led me to have the confidence to design my own website and link it to a private domain, giving me a sense of professionality.
In hand, to these elements, my practical skills have also been developed, in new terms such as preparing documents for print for an external client, and online development design. It has also allowed me to gain skills in building a network of creatives to be able to further develop my practice.
Life’s a pitch in particular helped with my pitching skills which then allowed me to make more informed decisions on my own personal pitch and amend any of the mistakes that were made in the actual presentation stages of the brief. Life’s a pitch also allowed me to gain experience of working in a live team on a brief in different locations and the levels of team communication that is needed to successfully complete a brief within time constraints and to the standards that are expected.

Overall, I am happy with my progression this year and wish to work on the aims and ambitions I have earlier made evident in my previous blog posts and presentations. Mainly over summer working on competition briefs, which I will be able to now collaborate on with other creatives with the new found confidence that this module has enabled me to have.

Presentation Evaluation:

My presentation was in the time amount of 10 minutes, and I believe went well. Apart from some technical difficulties of lagging with the computer, I believe the actual presenting was to the standard of what was expected. Throughout the presentation, I re-evaluated my year from the challenges that I had faced, to the achievements I believe I have managed this year. I have understood what type of designer I am and know the areas in which I want to investigate further such as web and UX design. Throughout the presentation, I also touched on the aims and ambitions I had at the beginning of the year, which can be found in my manifesto. Such as gaining the confidence to regularly contact designers I like as well as gain experience within the industry. I also identified where I want to be going next year with my practice, as previously mentioned continue experimenting with specialisms I enjoyed this year and enter more competitions in a collaborative format as I also enjoyed doing so this year to D&AD. Overall I believe the presentation went well and I did well to create a presentation that was out of my normal comfort design, but also retaining my brand identity and my new work.

Creative Report Evaluation:

Overall I believe that my creative report has helped me develop in a multitude of ways through contacting the designers themselves, my confidence has been boosted to further contact more artists and creatives, and make connections with new people to possibly collaborate with at a later date. This has led me to keep in contact with one of the people I contacted to create the report and arrange some work experience over the summer in a studio in Birmingham.
The report has also made me consider the way I ask questions, each question which I asked was something I was concerned about in my design and considering talking in my third year. Not only has the answers of the questions helped me in terms on understanding these issues but also in gaining the assurance that I can contact industry professionals and talk to them about progressive issues.

Overall if I were to do this part of the module again I would make sure to gain some interview experience face to face with the creatives themselves and ensure to gain a more of a personal level of interaction.

Personal Involvement

We were working in a team of 5 which became a team of 4 due to one of the members of the team having to suspend their studies. As part of the team my main responsibilities were contributing towards research and investigation, initial ideas, research and design. I feel as a group we worked well because of our extensive communication over multiple platforms. As a group we fulfilled the briefs requirements and created an outcome we are proud of. Throughout the research and investigation stages I went out to source information from a metal specialist which materials we were using at the time. I also contributed largely to the second process of ideas stage, originally suggesting the idea of augmented reality from one of my own past experiences. Within the design process I was heavily involved in transforming the wire frames into realised pieces, which were then further developed into our final piece. I utilised the elements given from other team members such as the arrows and map illustrations to place the artboards together, which I then placed into a mock-up setting made by Hannah and rendered the final video.
During the presentation itself I felt as if I was trying to push my group in being vocal to our audience and gain a real link of engagement with them to get them on board with the idea, although once we had begun the team became more active.

Overall I believe as a team we worked well, and the process has enabled me to see what working in a team is like when you are in different locations and the way that can be tackled through the use of new platforms such as google slides.
