The brief was successful in terms of we created an outcome which was successful for what the brief required. The brief required us to examine an environment that could both enhance the reputation of the university and also encourage more applicants and attendance. There were no limitations, nor budget, and the only real must that the brief needed is that the user must be able to find their way around the building and the system must both last and be relevant for the next 10 years. To combat this, we included technology which would not make any physical alterations to the building and could be updated at any point with ease.
The design itself was simplistic and allowed for the purpose to drive the design, keeping the directional and the structure itself the main focus and mainly un-interrupted throughout. The design was consistent even down to the level of what was used to create the symbols, creating curved corners and edged to resemble the type choices and the icons. The design took into consideration modern and changing design and therefore was relevant and hit the 10-year part of the brief.
Meeting every Wednesday allowed us to keep a consistent level of communication and work ethic, the times in which we were in the meeting were working conditions and gave me an idea of it would be like working in the industry. We communicated through Facebook throughout the process apart from when completing the presentation. To create a presentation, we used a collaborative platform that allowed the whole group work together in real time, this also gave me the experience of what it is like for people to work together across different places; which has given me the confidence to work in a team where people are in a different geographical location.
As a group, I think we all evenly contributed to the final outcome throughout the research design production and presentation process. I believe this was because of the level of communication and strict schedule of meetings, we each played on each other’s strengths and people were designated jobs depending on their skills.
Overall if I were to do the brief again I would work on the mock up and video side of the presentation as I believe that it could’ve been made to a more professional standard, although at this point of the year I was new to the programs which we were using to create the content.
