Time management is a key part to balancing university and personal life,
to be able to have enough time to be progressive in both. University so far has
proven to be a struggle in terms of time management, as I have stressed when it
comes to the end of deadlines to be able to get the all completed on time.
Things that we need to divide our time up into shouldn’t only consist
around university and non-university, so we began to make a list, things we
have to do and things that we want to do. Things we had to do consisted of
mainly menial tasks, which are still part of everyday life and needed to be
done. Whereas things we wanted to do mainly were tasks that could take place at
any time in the future, and will need work towards, this gave us a visual
representation of the comparison between the two so we can begin to think about
the division of our time.
Our second task was related to the first in terms of creating a visual
timetable to divide up the time of an average week. This intensive plan maps
out what I should be spending my time on each hour of each of the day, this
will help me plan out my day better and stay on top of the work needed to
complete each module. I managed to make the plan to give me enough time to
relax as well, as it is important to factor this in so you don’t burn yourself
out. The plan made me realize that I had a lot of time on my hands where I could
be doing other things, such as dedicating more time to completing work I should
have that week and blogging so I don’t get behind. Although the plan will help
with planning, to some extent, I believe because of the nature of a creative
course I cannot put down in concrete how long a particular task may take, as I often
find myself over running that set time. In saying that, time management is
something I want to work on and through doing this and not spending time on a
task; rather revisiting it at a later date, I may be able to do so.
