As I was not successful with any of the larger agencies in London, I decided to look closer to home to be able to complete an internship whilst also completing my university studies. Within the local area, I found an agency called Agency Forty, there are digital advertising and branding agency specialising creating full experiences for their client, as well as working on their own design ventures highlighting the skills of the individuals working within the agency.

The modern and clean sleek approach to design I felt was fitting with the type of design I was creating at the time, as well as the type of portfolio, I wanted to be able to create.
In terms of wanting to be a commercial designer this was also fitting due to the fact that all of the projects they had worked on were on a commercial level, therefore experience within the agency would allow me to get a further insight into commercial agency work.

I initially began by contacting the agency through calling them in order to speak to them directly, I managed to speak to one of the designers within this small agency. We were talking on the phone figure 20 minutes about design trends and projects are we working on at the moment, it turns out that two of the designers out of the team had previously also come from the Leeds Art University course. From this conversation, I was instructed to send over a CV and portfolio sample to the CEO of the company, in order to be able to get the process moving of possibly attending for an internship basis.

The process then led me to go in for an interview to be out to meet the team and see if I would be able to fit in on an internship basis.

The experience:

My second studio agency experience which allowed me to work again to work on live briefs from the first day, completing an entire concept and design process for a web redesign for one of the U.K.'s largest insurance broker providers. Which was later refined with the team and presented to the client. Throughout the experience I received strong feedback on all of my actions, allowing me to improve myself in the way I approach a designer library for the client. I was allowed more time to myself to be able to process designs and research stages in order to provide myself with the capability to be able to do such a brief within the industry.
Reference:
Callum O’Reilly attended Agency Forty for a two week period between 8th – 19th April 2019 during which time he worked alongside the team on ‘live’ briefs including web design and packaging projects.
Callum worked well in an agency environment, interacting with the team offering good creative input which he was able to support with a considered rational.
He was at all times punctual, professional, with a good work ethic and would be an asset to any creative agency.
