Job Interviews

In response to the jobs that I applied for I obtained the following interviews please see below for confirmation of said interviews with a short description of how I feel it went, as well as any rejections that I've received from the interviews themselves.

Apple Design Internship
Interview Invite

Please see my previous blog post about this job interview, as well as feedback from the interview.

The White Company
Interview Invite

I was invited to an interview at the White Company and accepted straight to a due to the fact that the role was specifically suited to exactly where I wanted to be leaving university. My portfolio resulted to show a selection of briefs to which were fitting for the white company job description. Showing a selection of skills in both digital and printed media, with an emphasis on print, therefore showing mainly the publications which I created in a simpler and elegant style to reflect the needs of the business.

The interview itself was a positive experience in which simple questions were asked about my process and my practice itself. I was asked why I thought my creative style would benefit the business, to which I answered my clean and modern style would benefit not only the products but the ethos of the white company visual identity.

Unfortunately, later that week I received an email telling me that I had been rejected to the role because I was supposedly overqualified for the position and thought that I would be bored within the roller needing something which offered more creativity. This email can be seen below.

White Company Rejection
McCann Health Interview + Offer
McCann Interview Confirmation
I was invited to an interview with McCann health part of the McCann world group. I was excited this interview due to the fact that it was quite different to the other positions I had applied for. The design is still within a commercial environment but rather being focused around a sale driven basis, it was focused around the promotion of health services and equipment. As someone with a long-term standing illness I instantly thought this would be a great way of being able to help other people like myself through my specialism.

The interview itself is really positive, it was more relaxed than the two previous interviews and the creative director took a real interest into my portfolio. After each of the projects he took the time to question about the creative process behind it and how I got to the outcome, something which the other teams did not seem to be too concerned about.
This was a really refreshing experience, and they were also very concerned in the way that they could help me progress of the designer I wanted a rather than solely just what I can bring to the business.

After the interview happened, I received an email telling me that the feedback was really positive and they were trying to get me an offer confirmed on an internship basis, due to the fact that I was coming straight from university degree. This internship basis would be in replacement of a probation period and lead to a full-time junior designer role with the company. As can be seen below within email communications. Communications went back-and-forth shortly just over a month. At this point the company came back to me and said that they believed I would be better suited to another team of the McCann health group, which currently had a full-time junior position open, due to the fact that my application was already processed it would be fine to move ahead as long as I was okay to come down to London and reinterview with the new team.
Although at this point I had interest from other opportunities which I had a greater draw towards, and couldn't push off any longer without losing other opportunities as well.

Arcadia
Interview Confirmation
I was invited to an interview at Arcadia, the U.K.'s largest high street retail group. This was for a Jr designer position and fit precisely the environment and goals I was aiming for, being a commercial designer environment within a retail setting.

This interview was slightly different due to the fact that I had to complete an online video interview before being offered in an interview, and on the offer of the interview, I also need to complete a short brief to be able to show my design skills, in order to see whether they were fitted to the needs of the business. This more brief can be seen elsewhere on my blog.

The interview itself was a positive experience in which I got great feedback from the brief created, in terms of it being suited for the businesses design style, whilst also allowing me to use my own creative style and vision. My portfolio gained great feedback and they believe that my style would be suitable for the taking. It was also mentioned that they love the fact I had retail experience within other aspects of the business, as they believed it gave me a great understanding of the actual placement and need the graphic design within the retail sphere. I am currently waiting to hear back from this interview.

Harvey Nichols
Interview Confirmation

I attended an interview with Harvey Nichols with their creative director. This role was very fitting for the type of role I was looking for being within a design a retail environment this role would allow me to explore visual identity in a way to grow the brand.

The interview was a positive experience, I received great feedback on some of the work within my portfolio, although the interview seemed more casual than any of the others due to the fact that there was just me and the creative director was part of it. The interview was the shortest I experience but the feedback I received was invaluable in terms of the creative director engaging with the pieces in a way that seemed that she was actually interested in the origins and exploration of the briefs.

Unfortunately, I received a rejection from this offer, although they were impressed with the interview and the content of my portfolio they decided to go with someone with more experience. This is evidenced within the email below.
