Due to the nature of the job applications I'm completing
being on a commercial level rather than being sourced through events,
exhibitions, and networking events the best possible application of myself
branding is through an online media source. This is because of the way in which
I apply for commercial drops majority online which do not request a portfolio
being sent in through print. Therefore, the aspects I have spoken about
elsewhere on this blog have been considered in order to present my branding and
design style in the best possible light.
Although due to the fact that I've recently booked tickets
to attend this year's D&AD Festival I've decided to design a business card,
this is something I can simply give out to other creatives that I decide to
network with at the event. This is a great way at the event to be able to pass
out a small amount of information about myself and redirect people towards my
website and other portfolio mediums.
I decided to create a business card this stage due to the
fact that D&AD is such a large-scale event which so many people attend and
therefore it would be a great way of being able to create networking contacts
not particularly for jobs but be able to collaborate with in future personal
work.
Business card design |
As can be seen below the design of my business card
encompasses the design feature’s I have carried out throughout my entire self-branding
visual identity. The monochrome style has been used to create two alternating
design styles in which white logo is used on a black background with the
information on the reverse contrasting, or the other way around with a black
logo on white background and again the information on the reverse also
contrasting.
I believe this use of monochrome simple colour palette is best
representative of the contrast between traditional and modern shown within my
design style and also best representation to be able to carry through a
seamless identity from my digital mediums of presenting my work through to
printed, which this is the only version of. In order to further show the way in
which I consider printing techniques for briefs that require it, the placement
of the logo on the front side of the card, whether it be white or black, will
have a raised spot gloss over it bringing focus into the logo itself. Due to
the way that two designs are required, and the expense incurred with this type
of printing I will be ordering the cards from moo.com closer to the time of the
festival itself. As can be seen below I've enquired about the cost of this and
also the timing in which it will be produced.
